Super Bowl ads typically range from hilarious to heartwarming, but Audi’s commercial that’s set to air during the big game on Sunday is downright inspirational, delivering a powerful message about gender equality that anyone can relate to.
The ad begins moments before a downhill cart race. As a young girl prepares to do battle against her tough male competitors, her father, who’s looking on from the crowd, wonders in the voiceover, “What do I tell my daughter?”
The girl dodges fierce obstacles throughout the race before snagging the win. “Do I tell her that her grandpa is worth more than her grandma?” the father ponders as she pulls ahead of the pack. “That her dad is worth more than her mom? Do I tell her that despite her education, her drive, her skills, her intelligence, she will automatically be valued as less than every man she ever meets? Or maybe, I’ll be able to tell her something different.”
The girl’s victory is more than just a story, though. Audi uses the ad to emphasize their devotion to gender equality and commitment to ending the wage gap between men and women.
“Progress is in every decision we make, every technology we invent, every vehicle we build,” Audi writes on YouTube in the video’s description. “It’s our past, our future, our reason to exist. Audi of America is committed to equal pay for equal work. A 2016 report by the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee found that women were paid 21% less than men on average.”
The ad ends with one final, chill-inducing message: “Progress for everyone.” See the commercial for yourself below, and prepare to be inspired:
