The Spanish midfielder opened the scoring after 12 minutes in the EFL Cup tie at Elland Road before Port Vale, who play in League Two (England’s fourth tier), equalised through former Leeds midfielder Michael Tonge.
Saiz, an off-season signing from Spanish club SD Huesca, then scored twice on the hour before striker Caleb Ekuban scored Leeds’ fourth after 83 minutes.
Vale’s Gavin Gunning saw red in the final minutes after collecting his second yellow card as All Whites captain Wood wasn’t risked with Leeds playing Preston North End in the Championship on Saturday (Sunday morning NZ time).
